PHOTOS WEEK 1

1) I thought it would be nice to look at a mini stairway to heaven. I wanted to have the movement go left from right. I love low key lighting, harsh shadows. Every day we climb.

2) The vertical and horizontal lines caught my eye when I left the Provo temple. I wanted to capture the path leading on and moving forward.

3) The classic guy passed out on the couch. The man is so tired he wrapped himself with a flower blanket. I wanted to capture more affinity with the color white. Nap time.

4) I wanted to capture some vibrant colors and similar shapes. These objects said to me the odd one out. Vitamins, cleaning supplies, and then Coke.

5) This was not a perfect step. It caught my eye because the step was smooth except for that part. The part that is chipped gives the step texture and more variety. The triangle is found within the rectangle.

  1. Cameron, I really like that first photo. And I assume you rotated the angle, because it feels almost disorienting. Like it would be harder to climb those stares. That second photo of the exit from the temple captures a cool path outward, but doesn't answer what the path leads to (which is cool!). You captured exhaustion really nicely with the man with the flower blanket. And the product line up asked some strange questions towards what we chose to ingest. The color of the hand wipes were just as appealing (and appetizing) as the coke. And the last photo, the differences in the texture from the completed stair to the chip is drastic. It makes me wonder if we should always consider what is under the surface.

  2. 1. Great use of low key lighting in this one! This photo is a little disorienting. The stairs seem to be very narrow and steep, which makes it look very intimidating and unwelcoming. I would not want to climb those stairs.
    2. Great composition! It looks beautiful, and I love the use of the rule of thirds here. It seems to stretch on forever.
    3. This picture makes me tired. I like the patterns on the couch and blanket. They add personality to the photo.
    4. Great concept! The colors contrast well with the wall, and I love what it suggests about what looks appealing and what is actually good for us.
    5. Nice idea. This photo was a little too dark for me, though. I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at.

  4. 1. I like the contrast in this picture. Also the angle of the stairs looks kind of distorted which I like
    2. The symmetry is really beautiful in this shot. The dull colors are a nice contrast to the warm colors you find in the temple.
    3. I always interesting to see people sleeping. Normally you would think of a 20 something guy as strong but it’s cool to see him look peaceful and comforted from the flowing blanket.
    4. The order of the objects, placement of the vitamins a little farther out and position of the camera add up to an interesting photo
    5. I like harsh shadows, likes and shapes in this picture. It makes it interesting

  5. 5: The most interesting thing about this photo for me was the way you managed to make something so commonplace and ordinary -- a cement step -- feel so abstract and alien based on your use of angles and contrast. The skewed angle made the shape of this thing unrecognizable and the shadow-heavy dark/light balance made it feel mysterious. Very cool.
